Happy December!
November 30, 2010Hallelujah Chorus!!!!!!!!!!!
I received an email yesterday from my recently retired amazing teacher sister in law. The subject line read: Video – Flash Mob crowd sings Hallelujah Chorus – A Must Watch Video – National Cultural Trends. I thought, hmmmmmmm… wonder what this is about?! I love the Hallelujah chorus and was a bit nervous it was going to be something that makes a mess of the beautiful piece. I have fond memories of singing in the chorus with arts educator Mr. Benjamin Censullo during my four years in high school. In fact, I can close my eyes and be right back there on my high school auditorium stage with Mr. Censullo leading us in the Hallelujah chorus.
When I opened the email and put my headset on so as not to disturb my colleagues in the other cubicles at the Department, I was pleasantly surprised and wanted to pop up out of my seat and join in! I think you might agree with me that watching it is a GREAT way to start off the holiday. If I were teaching I would definitely share it with my students. And, if you are anything like me about this piece, get the tissues before hitting the play button.
I don’t especially care for shopping at the mall and certainly don’t enjoy all the crowds of people shopping at this time of year. However, if I could be at the mall when this happened I would be soooooooooooo excited I couldn’t contain myself. If you’d prefer not waiting for the video to load you can click here. It loads very quickly compared to the link below (on my computer anyway).

Fantastic, Argy. Leave it to the arts to touch people’s lives in such a meaningful way. This is not something those shoppers will ever forget!
I already received a link to another one from a music teacher this morning. I hope more links come in so I can share them with our arts education community in Maine.
There was a dancing flash mob at the Student Union at Orono last month, too! A former student recorded it and posted in on facebook. It must have been amazing to be there and feel the energy. This post is wonderful, too! :]
WOW, that is GREAT to hear! Do you know what the facebook page is where it is published by any chance? I will google it and try to find it Ellyn but if you have any other information please send it along. Thanks!
