Picturing America

I don’t know if you’ve ever seen the packets of reproductions from Picturing America but the quality of them is outstanding. Here’s an opportunity that you might want to attend with a colleague to create an integrated unit using this resource.

Picturing America, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Humanities, is a great tool for all teachers! These high-quality reproductions of American art can be used in a variety of ways in any classroom or childcare setting. This one-day program for teachers of children ages 0 – 18 will offer innovative ways to use visual images from Picturing America and Maine’s local art collections to teach critical thinking skills, visual and verbal literacy and American culture. If you are new to Picturing America, or are already familiar with it, this program will help you expand your knowledge.

The program will be held on March 19, 2011 at two of Maine’s premier local art institutions, the Bates College Museum of Art and the USM Lewiston – Auburn College Atrium. To register for this engaging on-day program, please click here: http://mainehumanities.org/special-programs/picturing-america/
