Commissioner’s Listening Tour

Let your voice be heard!

Commissioner Bowen, the new Education Commissioner, will be starting a Listening Tour tomorrow, Tuesday, March 15th. He will be traveling through the state attending superintendents meetings, visiting schools in each superintendents regions, and providing a public forum. Community members, including educators, can attend and be heard. Take advantage of this unique opportunity arts educators! Below is the Media Advisory!

Commissioner’s listening tour starts in Greene, Turner, Auburn

Education Commissioner Stephen Bowen will be in Greene, Turner, and Auburn on Tuesday, March 15, the first date of his Listening Tour, announced Thursday. He will meet with superintendents from the region in the morning, visit schools in Greene and Turner in the afternoon, and then hold a public forum in the evening to hear from parents, teachers, and anyone else who is interested in sharing their ideas about improving education and the Department of Education.

The following events will be open to media coverage:

12:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 15
Greene Central School, 41 Main Street, Greene*
Lunch with teachers and principal, followed by a tour of the school
Principal: Pamela Doyen

1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 15
Turner Primary School, 59 Cobb Road, Turner*
Tour the school
Principal: Theresa Gillis

6-8 p.m., Tuesday, March 15
Leavitt Area High School auditorium, 21 Matthews Way, Turner
Public forum

*For the school visits, please check in at school offices.

The Commissioner will be available for media interviews immediately after the Turner Primary School event and otherwise as time allows

The other scheduled regions at this point are:

  • Thursday, March 17th, Penquis Region and the evening forum will be held at the United Technologies Center, 6-8 p.m.
  • Monday, March 21, Hancock County and the evening forum will be held at the Ellsworth High School auditorium, 6-8 p.m.
