Gertrude lived February 3, 1874 – July 27, 1946 and was an American writer, poet and art collector a writer who lived most of her life in France.

I saw the exhibition in San Francisco of the work that she and her brothers collected and ultimately split up. It was amazing. They gave Picasso his start! I bought a t-shirt from the gallery store there with her quote- “it is better to buy pictures than clothes.” (pictures meaning art)
