Performance
I am having a difficult time shaking the horrific event of Friday that took place in Connecticut. I was hoping that the tickets we had purchased to attend the holiday concert presented by the United Mid-Coast Charities would life my spirits. It did somewhat however, the sadness was still there as I watched the young children in the audience throughout the concert who were interacting with their parents and responding innocently to the music.
About the concert which was fabulous… Four year old Pro Musica is directed by Janna Hyme. All of the approximately 40 musicians are from Maine and many of them are public school music teachers including: Carol Preston, Margaret Hopkins, Linda Vaillancourt, Loren Fields, Emily Widdoes, Tim Weir, Andrew Forster, Peter Stuart, Nancy Rowe, Jon Lawson, Steve Norriss, Karen Hawthorn Smith, Mark Mumme, and Heather Kahill. They played a variety of pieces several accompanying student singers from Camden Hills High School and Lincoln Academy. The choral component was prepared by music teachers Kim Murphy and Beth Preston.
Also joining the performance were three soloists John David Adams, Erin Chenard, and Dagney Ernest and student tap dancers from the Rockport Dance Conservatory. Their number was delightful! Santa surprised the audience during one number and stayed afterwards to hand out large candy canes to those who attended.
I have such fond memories of singing the Hallelujah Chorus in my high school choir so I was very appreciate that it was included in the program. At the end of the show their were several sing-a-long numbers that certainly impacted the almost sold out performance. Janna said, in closing, that she feels so fortunate to be doing exactly what she always dreamed about since she was a little girl.
My wishes for you on this Sunday during this special season is that you find peace and harmony and that you can find your own way to support the community of Sandy Hook Elementary.
