Maine Arts Ed on Facebook

December 3, 2013

Screen shot 2013-12-02 at 9.48.17 PMIt is time for a change, or perhaps I should call this an addition to the opportunities provided for communicating about arts education. I am pleased to announce that Maine Arts Education is now on Facebook. That is correct, I invite you to go to Facebook, and join the conversation. Find us at MEArtsEducation at https://www.facebook.com/MEArtsEducation.

History

I am sure that many of you remember when we didn’t have an electronic Maine arts education community. The list-serv was established in the winter of 2007 with 350 email addresses as a follow-up to a survey. One email address at a time the list has grown to almost 1200 addresses. Those on the list-serv receive an email each Tuesday morning. Every day a post is made on the blog on a variety of topics. In fact, as of today there are 1,720 posts. And, each week there are about 1200 visitors to the blog. Each post is forwarded to twitter and to facebook. This allows you the opportunity to read/follow meartsed on twitter and/or Facebook. If you are a visitor to Facebook, I Invite you to go there and follow Maine Arts Education. You can also click on the Facebook button on the top right side of the front page of the blog or click on Twitter, Email or Facebook at the bottom of the blog to send it to your accounts. Also, you can click on “like” at the bottom of each post.

Thank you for spreading the information that is posted on the blog. And, thanks for visiting the Maine Arts Education Facebook page and joining the arts education conversation!

Screen Saver Opportunity MLTI

December 2, 2013

Student Screensaver Artwork Submission Guidelines

Screen shot 2013-11-25 at 10.32.10 PMOver the last five years, the MLTI device screen saver featured eighty outstanding student works of art (twenty each year) with close to two thousand pieces of artwork submitted.

This opportunity is once again available for the 2014-2015 Screen Saver. Works of art will be submitted and an independent review committee will score the pieces of artwork using a rubric (available online).

This opportunity is open to Maine students in grades K-12. MLTI asks that students submit only ONE piece of artwork to be considered for the 2014-2015 screensaver. Please take careful note of the sizing and labeling requirements. Submissions not meeting these requirements or students submitting multiple works will not have their artwork reviewed. The deadline to submit artwork for this challenge is December 20, 2013!

The students whose artwork is selected will receive free Student Conference registration (May 22, 2014) and will have their artwork on the 2014-2015 MLTI devices.

More information on how to submit artwork can be found on our website at http://www.maine.gov/mlti/about/photos.shtml

Keller is Board Certified

December 1, 2013

Congratulations Genevieve Monks Keller for achieving National Board Certification

This piece is taken from Genevieve’s blog dated November 23, 2013 called Snow~Day Artist located at http://snowdayartist.blogspot.com/. So great to read and share in Genevieve’s excitement! Genevieve teaches 300 plus elementary students in Sheepscot Valley Regional School Unit 12.

This morning before the sun was up, I logged onto the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards website and found out that I am a NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFIED TEACHER!
I received an email earlier in the week letting me know that the scores would be available today. I patiently waited 6 months for this news. I can not tell you how happy, thrilled and excited I am. I feel as though I could fly, though this might be influenced by the fact that it is a very windy day here in Maine.
